Davis Hired as Corporate Communications Director 1/30/2013

(Fayetteville, N.C.) – The City of Fayetteville has hired Tracie Davis as its Corporate Communications Director. Davis will manage public affairs, communication issues and policies, the City’s Call Center, publications, the Print Shop and broadcast of City Council meetings. She will oversee emergency and disaster communications and serve as the key adviser to City management on the planning, development, implementation and control of communications, marketing, media coverage and public relations policies, practices and initiatives.

Davis has excellent experience in local government management. She has served as a town manager and deputy town manager in previous positions. Davis comes to Fayetteville after serving for two years as a management consultant for local businesses and governmental agencies in Southeastern North Carolina.

Prior to working as an independent consultant, Davis was town manager in the North Carolina municipality of Belville from 2006-2010. She managed everything from the budget to clerk duties to planning to human resources to public relations. Davis managed the town’s operations under the direction of the Mayor and Board of Commissioners.

She was deputy town manager for the Town of Nags Head in 2006, assisting the town manager on special projects related to coastal issues, including beach re-nourishment, and setting up on-site training opportunities for staff.

Davis was the director of planning and parks for the Town of Wrightsville Beach and also acted as the public information officer and managed the town’s public information group from 2003 to 2006. She previously served as a management intern for Wrightsville Beach from September 2002 to April 2003, but it became quickly apparent that she was capable of handling a larger role in the organization.

Her other experiences include working as a management intern for the Town of Elizabethtown Planning Department and as youth programs director for the Wilmington Athletic Club.

“We’re excited to have Ms. Davis as a part of our organization in Fayetteville,” City Manager Ted Voorhees said. “She brings valuable municipal management experience, which she has gained progressively over the last 12 years in many areas, including public relations and citizen engagement. Ms. Davis is knowledgeable, creative and aggressive, and I’m certain her leadership will pay dividends for our Corporate Communications Department.”

She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Master of Public Administration from UNC-Wilmington.
