The life of Fayetteville Police Officer Roy G. Turner, Jr. will be honored at the dedication for the Roy G. Turner, Jr. Park, 4623 Blanton Road, on Tuesday, May 15 at 10 am at the park. Officer Turner was killed in the line of duty in November 2001.
Officer Turner graduated from Seventy-First High School in 1988. Roy strove for excellence in football, weightlifting and track during his high school years. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the US Army as a military policeman with the 503rd Military Police Battalion for four years, which included a tour of duty in Iraq.
In November 1996, Roy was hired to attend the Fayetteville Police Academy, taking his oath of office on February 21, 1997. He proudly served for five years as a Fayetteville Police Officer. His service included working as a Patrol Officer with the Cross Creek District, Narcotic Vice Suppression Unit, Neighborhood Improvement Team and serving as a member of Team 2 of the Emergency Response Team.
Officer Turner is the son of Roy Gene Turner, Sr. and Olivia Lipsey Turner and was born on October 17, 1969. His father Roy G. Turner, Sr. and son Craig Furlong-Turner will take part in the ribbon cutting.
