|Fire Station 19 Opens Thursday, March 29||3/27/2012|
(Fayetteville, N.C.) – The Fayetteville Fire Department will open Fire Station 19 Thursday, March 29 at 10 a.m. with a ribbon cutting and ceremony at the facility, located off Andrews Road in Patriot Park. The station is needed to meet the growing demand for fire protection services in the related area.
The emergency response call volume in the northern area of the City jumped 40 percent from 2006 to 2008. Property loss figures in the response area rose from $17,200 in 2006 to $805,600 in 2008. In 2008, the Fayetteville Fire Department received a Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant to hire staff at Station 19, as well as other stations. In order to respond to the needs of north Fayetteville residents, a temporary station was placed in service Aug. 14, 2009 near Pine Forest High School. A need for a permanent station increased when the Westarea Fire Department closed in 2010. Cumberland County contracted with the Fayetteville Fire Department to provide service from Station 19 to the unincorporated area after closure of the Westarea station.
The new Fire Station 19 houses a single engine company with four firefighters assigned to it. Staff will be involved in Cumberland County Schools programs at Howard Hall Classical Elementary School and Pine Forest High School.
Station 19 was built by a local contractor, C.S.I Builders, at a cost of approximately $2 million.
