Taylor Receives Award for Giving Banquet Keynote Speech
(Fayetteville, N.C.) – Goodyear Plant Manager Billy Taylor is a busy man. But he made time during a hectic February to fly back into town to give the keynote speech at the Fayetteville-Cumberland Human Relations Commission Annual Recognition Awards Banquet. Taylor was honored recently by Fayetteville-Cumberland Human Relations Commission Chairperson Patti Fortuna and Human Relations Director Ron McElrath for his speech, titled “It’s Not About the Knockdown, It’s the Getup.”
Taylor’s speech focused on the first time Muhammad Ali was knocked down in a boxing match, which occurred during a fight with Sonny Banks. Taylor described how Ali was knocked down, sat back up and thought about staying there, but eventually returned to his feet. Taylor said because he got up, he went on to become the best boxer ever. The example illustrated how most leaders have to get up from a proverbial knockdown in order to overcome adversity and ascend into positions of authority.
Taylor thanked Fortuna and McElrath for the Human Relations award and extended his heartfelt appreciation for being selected as the keynote speaker.
