Mayor Pro Tem D. J. Haire is in his seventh-term representing District 4, winning his first seat on the council in 1997. Haire is a Fayetteville native who graduated from Terry Sanford High School in 1977. Mr. Haire attended North Carolina A & T State University in Greensboro, N.C., and holds a Certificate in the Industrial Technology Construction Management Association, 1983.

In 1992, Mayor Pro Tem Haire received a Certificate of Completion in Bible Studies from Bethel Bible Institute, Delaware. Mr. Haire graduated from Destiny Bible College on June 1, 2011 with a degree in Divinity. Haire has a television broadcast entitled "Building Bridges Ministries," that can be seen every other Friday evening at 7 p.m. on community channel 7.

 

Mr. Haire is a member and former member of several state and national boards, while also serving on two council committees:

• The North Carolina League of Municipalities
• The National League of Cities
• The North Carolina League of Notaries
• Life member of the NAACP
• Member of the North Carolina League of Black Elected Municipal Officials

Mayor Pro Tem Haire was appointed to the National League of Cities Community & Economic Development Steering Committee by the President of the NLC on March 1, 2011.
